I dedicate the second installment of "things I know for sure: Italian edition" to the everyday life of Italians.
People survive off coffee here (or so they say), but there is not a single Starbucks in a 200 mile radius. I need a venti soy latte, not the overpriced shot (literally, they are served in shot size glasses) of coffee that hardly gets me through the first 15 minutes of class.
Time is irrelevant. Classes start early or late, depending on the mood of the teacher. Dinners are at least 2 hours long. And the average walking speed of an Italian is that of a slow turtle. But, I absolutely love it. There is so much more time to enjoy the coversation, the company, and the beauty that surrounds us in Firenze.
Still obsessed with their style. They wake up everyday and treat the streets as their runway. No lululemon in sight (except for us Americans).
Italians do as they please. They open and close their stores and restaurants when they want, not necessarily when their customers want. To our luck, our favorite panini place by school is inconveniently closed for 2 weeks because the owner just needed some R&R. "Wouldn't that be nice," says the girl traveling Europe for 4 months...but still...
Italians never play by the rules. As our teacher warned us, "laws are meant to be interpreted for your friends and enforced for your enemies." Guess I'll be needing to make friends with the local police force ;)
"Le vita e bella," people!
Life is beautiful.
Get out there and enjoy it!
Ciao, for now!
M
you're too cute ;)
