As the last of my "no-chip" manicure came off today, I not only noticed that my nails are now uglily plain and in need of a manicure (that I will probably never find), but I realized that today marks our one month anniversary in Florence! I say this with the same bittersweet feelings that I had with freshman year of college; you hate to see it go, but at the same time you rejoice because the awkwardness and uncomfortableness of being the "new kids" is finally over. I no longer feel like I am an outsider, and day by day I feel that Florence is really my new home.
We celebrated our "anniversary weekend" by treating ourselves to the pastry that will always hold a special place in my heart (and stomach): the doughnut. Day in and day out we are tortured by the many doughnuts calling our names from bakeries on our walks around Florence, so this weekend we took the plunge at the "Chocolate Festival" that happens each February in Florence. We indulged in the warmest, sugariest, chocolatey-filled doughnut we could find, and let me tell you, it was the perfect ending to our first month in Florence.

Grazie Pasticceria Napoletana, grazie...
My jeans aren't thanking you, but we will be back.
Ciao, for now!
