Rome- 1. Maryl, Lizzie, Marikate- 0.
We we're in Rome last Wednesday for a little over 12 hours and it was 12 hours of back to back unfortunate events. Here's the cliff notes of how our "trip" went:
The train from Florence to Rome: easy, great, relaxing. The rest of the trip as soon as we got off the train...yikes. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but we were the small town kids coming to the big city. We had not been in a car, taxi, or any form of public transportation since we touched down in Florence 5 weeks ago, so we were totally lost. We spent a fun night on the town with our generous hosts. It was great to be able to see the nightlife of a different city, and spend time with our friends who were so kind to show us all the "hot spots."
Just giving ourselves bangs... |
It was all fun and games, though, until the next morning when we had to find our way back to our friends apartment to catch our flight to Istanbul. 5 miles and 2 hours later, we luckily found our way. Granted we had to make use of our tiny Italian cell phones to get turn by turn directions from tired and grumpy Willy who was woken by our SOS call, but somehow we made it. Barely...(note signs of defeat in below pictures...)

At least we found St. Peters on our walk...on accident, of course
Next, it was off to Istanbul!
Ciao, for now!
