things i know for sure (part quattro)

This past weekend as my roommates jetted off to Madrid, I decided to stay behind and enjoy a nice, relaxing weekend in Florence...by myself. The thought of being able to sleep in, catch up on Scandal, explore weekend life in Florence, and just relax seemed perfect, but now that the weekend has come to an end and my roommates have returned, I definitely learned a lesson or two about "living alone."

1. Always arm yourself a movie that can be played (without internet), and that you can watch over and over again despite the fact that you can quote it from start to finish (see above picture).
Three words. Sweet. Home. Alabama.

2. You will talk to yourself, save some face and at least buy a pet to share your thoughts with.
Spending the weekend alone in a city where I really know no one, I often found myself saying my thoughts out loud...to myself! I was the crazy lady in the market talking gibberish in a muted voice to myself. Where is Birdie when I finally need her?!

3. The internet is a wonderful thing.
On about hour 34 of my 72 hours alone, the internet in my apartment broke. If I thought I was bored before this, I was so wrong. Before, I could at least share my weekend with President Grant and Liv, now it was just me, myself, and I. Good news? I found the only english channel on our tiny TV, and even better news, Gilmore Girls reruns were on all night. Silver lining, people!

4. When all else fails, get a manicure.
An instant cure to boredom. A mani easily knocks out a hour of your day, add a pedicure and you easily have 2 hours with other human interaction. (Side note: Asians are not the only ones that talk about you during your mani/pedi, Italians do too... Problem is? I understand the Italians unlike the "woo-tin-gong-linyi" of the Asians.) Dear nice, Italian manicurist, I can understand about 1 of every 3 words you say and I know that my nails are gross, but give a girl a break its been 3 months since my last mani/pedi...

Ciao, for now,
M
